Chopping streams for a forage harvester
The invention relates to a chopper drum as defined in the preamble of claim 1 for a forage harvester.
A chopper drum of the type mentioned is known for example from DE 10 2012 023 431 A1. This chopper drum has a circular cylindrical drum body and two pairs of knife carriers. The drum body is provided with a drum casing which defines an outer diameter of the drum body and has an axial length which is limited by first and second axial ends pointing in opposite directions. Each of the knife carriers is formed with a plurality of knife carrier segments, each of which has an outer circumferential surface with a predetermined number of knife receptacles, and is releasably attached to the outer diameter of the drum body in a circular arrangement of its knife carrier segments. A first pair of knife carriers is arranged axially offset from one another on a first axial soap of the drum head. A second pair of knife carriers is arranged axially offset from one another on a second axial side of the drum casing.
The chopper drum known from DE 10 2012 023 431 A1 is provided with a plurality of strip-shaped cutting knives which, for so-called Voilmesser operation, are evenly distributed around the outside of the drum shell and are each fastened to two knife receptacles arranged axially apart from the drum shell. More precisely, a first group of cutting knives is fastened to the knife receptacles of the two knife carriers on the first axial side of the drum casing, so that the cutting knives each span the two knife carriers. A second group of cutting knives is attached to the knife receptacles of the two knife carriers on the second axial side of the drum casing, see above
B E2016 / 5789
If larger cutting lengths are to be achieved in use in the chopper drum known from DE 10 2012 023 431 Ä1, half of the cutting knives (circumferentially every second cutting knife) can be dismantled on each of the two axial sides of the drum casing, so that a so-called half-knife operation of the chopper drum becomes possible. However, the resulting, irregular cutting knife division creates an uneven flow of chopped material and causes poor loading of the subsequent units, which in turn leads to vibrations and increased stress on the subsequent units.
In order to remedy these problems, if the full number of cutting knives were left, they could each be formed with only half a cutting edge along their length in order to enable the chopping drum to operate with a half knife. However, this requires a special design for the cutting blades designed with half a cutting edge, which increases the manufacturing effort. Half the cutting edge of the cutting knife also reduces its mechanical stability.
Overall, this known chopper drum can thus only be operated with restrictions in the operation of the knife.
The invention is based on the object of developing a chopper drum as defined in the preamble of claim 1 for a forage harvester in such a way that its operation of the cutter is facilitated.
This is achieved with the features in the characterizing part of claim 1. Further developments of the invention are defined in the dependent claims.
According to the invention, a chopper drum for a forage harvester has a circular cylindrical drum body and two pairs of knife carriers. The drum body is provided with a drum shell that one
B E2016 / 5789
Defines the outer diameter of the drum body and a predetermined axial length het s which is limited by first and second axial ends pointing in opposite directions.
Each of the knife carriers is formed with a plurality of knife carrier segments, each of which has an outer circumferential surface with a predetermined number of knife receptacles, and is releasably attached to the outer diameter of the drum body in a circular arrangement of its knife carrier segments. Preferably, the knife carrier segments each have the shape of an annular disk cutout of a predetermined circumferential length and are releasably attached to the outer diameter of the drum body in a row of annular disk disks in the order of their knife carrier segments.
A first pair of knife carriers is arranged axially offset from one another on a first axial side of the drum casing. A second pair of knife carriers is axially offset from one another on a second axial side of the drum shell. Of the first pair of knife carriers, a knife carrier is preferably arranged at the first axial end of the drum shell and the other knife carrier is a predetermined axial length in the direction of the second axial end of the drum shell Also arranged offset from the second pair of knife carriers, a knife carrier is preferably arranged at the second axial end of the drum jacket and the other knife carrier is arranged offset by a predetermined axial direction towards the first axial end of the drum jacket.
The chopper drum according to the invention is characterized in that axially of the drum casing both between the first pair of knife carriers and between the second pair of knife carriers, an intermediate knife carrier designed like this knife carrier is provided and is releasably attached to the outer diameter of the drum body.
B E2016 / 5789
The two intermediate knife carriers provide an additional fastening and support for the cutting knives between each of the two pairs of knife carriers, which gives the cutting knives a higher mechanical stability in Voilmesserbetrieb. For the half-knife operation, the additional fastening options and support can be used instead of the cutting knives for the full-knife operation, shortened (e.g. half-length) cutting knives. These can be produced easily and with good mechanical stability by modifying (shortening) the cutting knives of the full knife lift. As a result, the half-knife operation of the
Chopper drum relieved.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the chopper drum is therefore provided with a plurality of strip-shaped cutting knives which are distributed around the outside of the drum shell and are each fastened to at least two knife receptacles spaced axially of the drum shell. One of the knife holders, which realizes the attachment of a respective cutting knife, is arranged or formed on one of the intermediate knife carriers.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, in each of the first pair of knife carriers and the second pair of knife carriers, the respective intermediate knife carrier is arranged axially of the drum jacket in the middle between the one knife carrier and the other knife carrier of the respective pair of knife carriers. This advantageously creates the possibility of making the length-shortened cutting knives for the half-knife operation exactly half as long as the full-length cutting knives for the full-knife operation, which reduces the manufacturing effort for the length-shortened cutting knives. In addition, this arrangement of the intermediate knife carrier advantageously influences the symmetry of the cutting knife arrangement in the radius of the knife, so that vibrations are reduced.
BE2016 / 5789
According to yet another embodiment of the invention, the cutting knives comprise at least one long knife (a full-length cutting knife with a continuous cutting edge), which has a length and is arranged such that the at least one long knife holds the knife carriers of a pair of the above and second pairs of Knife carrier spanned and attached to three respective knife receptacles in alignment of the two knife carriers of the respective pair of knife carriers and the intermediate knife carrier arranged between them. In this way, the long knife is attached and supported at three points and thus has increased mechanical stability.
According to yet another embodiment of the invention, the cutting knives comprise at least one short knife (a shortened and in particular half-length cutting knife with a continuous cutting edge), which has such a length and is arranged that the at least one short knife extends from one of the knife carriers to one axially of the Drum casing extends directly to the relevant knife carrier of the intermediate knife carrier and is fastened to a respective knife receptacle of the relevant knife carrier and the relevant intermediate knife carrier. In this way, the short knife is attached and supported at two points and thus has good mechanical stability.
According to one embodiment of the invention, axially of the drum shell, between the first pair of knife carriers and between the second pair of knife carriers, a further intermediate knife carrier designed like this knife carrier is provided directly adjacent to the one intermediate knife carrier and releasably attached to the outer diameter of the drum body, so that the pair of intermediate knife carriers is arranged centrally between the one knife carrier and the other knife carrier of the respective pair of knife carriers. The additional intermediate knife carrier advantageously increases the variability of the arrangement of shortened cutting knives.
B E2016 / 5789
According to a further embodiment of the invention, the cutting knives comprise at least one long knife (a full-length cutting knife with a continuous cutting edge) which is of such a length and is arranged that the at least one long knife spans the knife carriers from a pair of the first and second pairs of knife carriers and is attached to four respective knife receptacles lying in a line of the two knife carriers of the relevant pair of knife carriers and the two intermediate knife carriers arranged between them. In this way, the long knife is attached and supported at four points and thus has an even higher mechanical stability.
According to yet another embodiment of the invention, the cutting knives comprise at least one short knife (a shortened and in particular half-length cutting knife with a continuous cutting edge), which has such a length and is arranged that the at least one short knife extends from one of the knife carriers to one axially of the drum casing extends directly adjacent to the relevant knife carrier of the intermediate knife carrier and is fastened to a respective knife receptacle of the relevant knife carrier and the relevant intermediate knife carrier. In this way, the short knife is attached and supported at two points and thus has good mechanical stability.
According to one embodiment of the invention, for a full knife operation, all cutting knives of the chopper drum are designed like the at least one long knife, a first group of the cutting knives being arranged on the first pair of knife carriers, circumferentially around the drum tray, and a second group of the cutting knives being distributed on the outside around the drum head are arranged on the second pair of knife carriers. The first group of cutting knives is preferably offset circumferentially from the second group of cutting knives, so that each cutting knife of the one group is circumferentially spaced between them
B E2016 / 5789 two circumferentially directly adjacent cutting knives of the other group is located.
According to one embodiment of the invention, for a half-knife operation 5, all cutting knives of the chopping drum are designed like the at least one short knife, with a number of half of the cutting knives distributed around the outside of the drum casing on the side of the first pair of knife carriers and the other half of the cutting knives around the outside of the drum casing are distributed on the side of the second pair of knife carriers. In each half of cutting knives, a first group of cutting knives is arranged on the one knife carrier and the intermediate knife carrier of the respective pair of knife carriers directly adjacent axially to the drum shell, and a second group of cutting knives is arranged on the other knife carrier and the intermediate knife carrier directly axially adjacent to the drum shell of the respective pair of knife carriers.
For half-knife operation, the first group of cutting knives is preferably offset circumferentially from the second group of cutting knives
Cutting knife arranged so that each cutting knife of one group is circumferentially at a circumferential distance between two circumferentially directly adjacent cutting knives of the other group.
In addition, for the cutter operation, the cutting knives of two groups of cutting knives of the one and the other half of cutting knives, which are axially adjacent to the drum shell, are preferably offset circumferentially, so that each cutting knife of the one group is circumferentially spaced between two circumferentially directly adjacent cutting knives of the other Group is located.
Overall, a uniform flow of chopped material, less noise and

Vibrations achieved. At the same time, voiHange cutting knives with a continuous cutting edge can be used for full knife operation. The chopper drum according to the invention ensures good mechanical stability of the cutting knives, even for the increased knife forces in radius knife operation. The shortened cutting knives of the circular knife operation are inexpensive and can be manufactured with good stability.
The invention also extends expressly to those embodiments which are not given by combinations of features from explicit references to the claims, with which the disclosed features of the invention can be combined with one another as far as this is technically expedient.
